If a part of the formula is in parentheses that part will be calculated first.
When starting to use Excel we use formulas to manipulate data from other cells in the worksheet. Excel is quite intelligent in that when you start typing the name of the function a pop-up function hint will show. Select the cell containing the formula and recreate the entire formula.
