Zizka University of Arizona The speed of light was measured using the Foucault method of reflecting a beam of light from a rotating mirror to a fixed mirror and back creating two separate. Because the light starts and finishes in the same place only one clock is needed to measure the total time thus this speed can be experimentally determined independently of any clock synchronization scheme. Fizeaus experiment was later modified by French physicist Jean Leon Foucault 1819-1868 who replaced the toothed wheel with a rotating mirror.
In terms of units it is metre metresecond second.
How close were you. How did past scientists determine itsalue valueThis video covers Romer Bradley Fizeau and Fouca. The correct value is 186000 miles per second. What is the history behind determining the speed of light.
